Who can apply?
This PT Immersion Experience is limited to six Students. Students must be over 18 years of age. Students must be sighted individuals, that already have experience with Protactile. Applications will be carefully reviewed and interviews may be set up to determine the best candidates for this program.

Note: While this Immersion Experience is currently set for sighted individuals that already have some experience with PT (to review and continue developing skills), we will host PT Immersion Experiences in the future for DeafBlind individuals, both experienced and new to PT; as well as other members of the community that want to learn PT.

What is the cost?
The cost for PT Immersion Experience is $400. This covers lodging, food, transportation, and activities

What is the PT Immersion Experience?
The PT Immersion Experience is an immersive space where all students will be required to wear blacked out sunglasses and earplugs in any common space. PT Immersion Experience will be a PT Zone, where all will use Protactile without the privilege of vision. This is full experience into DeafBlind culture. Students will be taught about copresence and conavigation, as well as being immersed in Protactile to further improve skills in that language. Students will learn to develop their touch senses. Students will be assigned chores, as well as taking turns preparing meals. There will be trips to the food store and the mall to practice copresence and conavigating in real world situations (shopping for food, finding things at the mall, ordering and eating food). There will be activities and discussions. All activities require students to leave their sense of vision and hearing behind to focus on touch and communicating with Protactile. There will be other activities, as well as one-on-one meetings throughout the experience.

To register PT Immersion Experience, please fill out this form. The cost is $400 for this 4 day training. Upon acceptance into the program, you are required to put down a $75 nonrefundable deposit. After the deposit, you may choose to pay in installments or all at once.

The PT Immersion Experience runs from Saturday afternoon, April 6 to Tuesday morning, April 9.

DBSAN is formed for the purpose of providing education and support to people that are DeafBlind, as well as providing workshops, training, and educational retreats for both for DeafBlind people and those in the community who want to learn more about how to work better with DeafBlind people.

DBSAN is excited to host its first PT Immersion Experience!

At PT Immersion Experience, our instructors are DeafBlind and possess the knowledge and skills in communicating with Protactile. Our instructors are patient, demonstrating the correct way to use Protactile and how to apply to real life situations. We strive to provide trainings that give Students better understanding of how to effectively use Protactile, and what kinds of access DeafBlind people need.

Our PT Immersion Experience will build self-esteem and self-confidence among Students by promoting and teaching the values of Protactile, Autonomy, Co-Presence, Reciprocity, Teamwork, and Responsibility. There will be opportunities for individual and community growth as well as for interpersonal collaboration and connection. We will provide all Students with a safe environment where they can learn, grow, and try new things at their own pace. The PT Immersion Experience will be a Protactile Zone.
