Description

Who can apply?
This PT Immersion Training accept up to 9 Students.

This training is focused on certified ASL interpreters.

What is the PT Immersion Training?
The PT Immersion Training offers a unique and profound opportunity to experience elements of DeafBlind culture firsthand. This immersive program is designed to teach Students the principles of Protactile and give real world application through meetings and activities.

Key Features:

Protactile Communication: The core of the training revolves around Protactile, a touch-centric language. All participants will utilize Protactile within the designated "PT Zone" and practice reciprocity, Copresence, ensuring mutual understanding and respect.

Sensory Deprivation: Students will wear blacked-out sunglasses and earplugs in common areas, limiting their vision and hearing privilege. This creates a shared experience of sensory deprivation, fostering touch awareness and clear communication strategies..

Skill Development: Students will refine their tactile perception, develop their Protactile skills through assigned chores and meal preparation, and engage in a variety of activities and discussions.

Support and Reflection: Individualized meetings provide opportunities for support, reflection, and checking in throughout the Protactile Immersion Training. Students will be asked to reflect on what they’ve learned, how they can improve; as well as discussions about power, privilege, and oppression.
